Origin:
Bred by Pierre Jean Louis Roëser (France, before 1829).
Introduced in France by Julien-Alexandre Hardy / Roseraie du Luxembourg in 1830 as 'Belle de Crécy'.
Class:
Gallica / Provins, Hybrid China.  
Bloom:
Red, violet shading, ages to violet .  Strong fragrance.  100 petals.  Average diameter 3".  Medium to large, very full (41+ petals), button-eye, expanded bloom form.  Once-blooming spring or summer.  
Habit:
Short, compact, sends out runners, suckers on its own roots, upright.  

Height: 3' to 7' (90 to 215cm).  Width: 3' to 39" (90 to 100cm).
Growing:
USDA zone 4b through 9a.  Remove old canes and dead or diseased wood..  Prune after flowering is finished.
