Early in the morning of October 22, Barbara visited Hinds to discover it had disappeared. A new grave had been dug and the rose discarded – she found it some little distance away with its roots in the air. The story of the next hour is too detailed to relate now, but this episode reflects the enormous challenges that she frequently faces at Rookwood. Hopefully the rose, which was on its own roots, will survive its unconventional relocation
