*** Growing near Houston, TX: sub tropical zone 9a. Mild winters, hot, extremely humid summers that last half the year. ***
Purchased- Vintage 2011.
April 2013- This has been a very fast growing plant. It is now a little better than 4x4 and flowers almost continuously. The flowers do shrink some in the heat, but they keep coming anyway.
-- moved to a new house and brought her with me.
5/2014 - Planted in new garden (raised bed).
8/2014- Growing very quickly. Already a lanky 4.5h x 3w. I planted this one next to Miss Caroline (also from RPN), because they seemed like spinster sisters and I like the color combo.
4/2016- size is 4.5h x 5w. There is a giant salvia growing under her that has decided to take over the world. I'll probably remove it and give the Miss some room to breathe.
2/28/2016- plant is about 7h x 5.5 wide. (still need to take the salvia out)
5/2020- Blooms her heart out. Plant is about 7.5h x 10w.
March 2021- Severe damage from winter storm Uri. Temps down to 15 and stayed below freezing for 5 days. Had to cut down to green cane at about 3h x 3w.
5/4/2022- Has not really rebounded from freeze damage. Grown to only about 4 x 4 and putting out sparse flowers.
1/1/2023- Another deep freeze (was nearly 80 degrees the day before). Temps down to 17 and stayed below freezing for 3 days. 40 mph winds. Brown canes all the way to the ground. We will see, but I don't really have hope.
4/11/2023- winter killed
