Blooms are wonderfully colored, creating a multi-color effect. Shrubby habit, perfectly clean abundant foliage and wonderful repeat right thru the summer heat. Kordes does it again! Now this is a first impression as mine is in its first year in a pot. All the other roses purchased at the same time look like first year roses-- not this one.
I just purchased Cubana because when I looked it up in the W. Kordes web site and they have it classed as a floribunda. I was hoping to show it as a floribunda but I noticed HMF has is classed as a shrub. Could I still show in ARS shows as a floribunda?
Thanks, that is what I figured. It is just fustrating when you buy a roses after looking it up in the breeders web site and then finding out that ARS classes it as something else. I would have bought it anyway but I had hoped to enter something else besides the 'typical' floribunda that one sees at the shows.
The breeder submits the information to the ARS for registration. In this case, Kordes felt comfortable marketing the rose as a floribunda in Europe, but decided that plant did not meet the usual definitions for floribunda for registration and placed it in the "shrub" class. The ARS did not decide to put it in a different class.
Thanks again. I wonder why they did that? But no matter I will take it to the shows anyway.
update: 27 Feb 09: I have had Cubana for about 2 weeks. I purchased it from Ashdown Roses as an own root band. I repotted it into a 1gal pot placed it in my coldframe and it took off. Very bushy with clean dark green leaves. I can not wait until it blooms.
