Book (1995) Page(s) 112. Nola Simpson. Final Analysis 1995-96 Tiger (MACgremli). McGredy, 1989. scarlet and yellow; 38 reports on 55 bushes; 1-5 years; 1.9 metres; 7.4 rating. A very husky strong growing HT and most of the reporters think the colour is the best feature being a striking scarlet and yellow bicolour, the flowers are somewhat loose and are at their best when full open. Repeat of bloom is a little slow otherwise a very good garden rose, very healthy.
Book (1994) Page(s) 93. Nola Simpson. Review of Newer Roses for 1993-94 Season. Tiger (MACgremli); McGredy 1989; scarlet and yellow; 10 reports on 14 bushes; 1-4 years; 1.9 metres; 7.8 rating. More reports this year on this husky strong growing HT. Most think the colour is the best feature, being a striking scarlet and yellow bicolour. The flowers are somewhat loose and are at their best when full open. Repeat of bloom is a little slow, otherwise a good garden rose, very healthy.
Book (1993) Page(s) 95. Nola Simpson. Review of Newer Roses for 1992-93 Season Tiger MACgremli. McGredy 1989; scarlet and yellow; 7 reports on 9 bushes; 1-3 years; 1.6 metres. 7.7 rating. Only 7 reports so far, but all reasonably favourable. Tall strong growing husky bushes with large flowers which are a striking red/gold combination, trifle loose, open flat and look at their best as a full open. Very thorny long stems, healthy and repeat slow, spider mites rather fancy it.
Book (1992) Page(s) 93. Nola Simpson. Review of Newer Roses for 1991-92 Season. Tiger (MACgremli); McGredy 1989. Scarlet and yellow; 8 reports on 9 bushes; 1-3 years. 1.5 metres. 7.4 rating. All 8 reporters seem reasonably happy with this rose. Very bright striking colour, grows vigorous and tall, healthy, blooms open flat and have form similar to 'Typhoo Tea', good petal substance, slow repeat, great full open. A show stopper for colour.
Book (1990) Page(s) 90. Don Sheppard. Review of Newer Roses for 1989-90 Season. Tiger MACgremli. McGredy 1989; ('Taupo' x 'Arturo Toscannini') x 'Ferry Porsche' x 'Tombola'); scarlet and yellow; 5 reports on 6 bushes; 1-2 years; 1.6 metres; 7.1 rating. More a floribunda-type rose than the pure Hybrid Tea of yesteryear, this rose produces HT-type blooms in clusters from a thorny big dark foliaged and healthy bush. Petal texture is good. The blooms open to be flat and the colours are soft but still garish. Its name speaks of the blooms' colouring. Canterbury reports little or no fade, and Bay of Plenty finds the blooms do fade. There is a little scent. The bush grows well for all reports. As Franklin says, it is a rose you either like or loathe.
