What a lovely colour this rose brought to us in 1949! And what a harvest of rose rust bred upon its leaves! Regretfully my firm discarded it, as soon as we saw this beauty in peach and coral spreading devastation in the gardens of our customers. We spent the next few years subscribing to nearly every acknowledgement of order: 'Regret we do not grow Fashion'; and I fear our competitors profited thereby. It was raised by Eugene Boerner from 'Pinocchio' x 'Crimson Glory'.

The floribunda ‘Fashion’ is making its second appearance in the American Rose Annual. First displayed in the 1950 edition, it was selected this year in honor of its originator, Eugene S. Boerner, who admitted that it was his favorite of all the roses he had introduced.

Fashion. Pinocchio x Crimson Glory. Floribunda. (E. S. Boerner, 1947). A most beautiful colour which is by no means easy to describe: coral-peach, salmon-peach, orange-salmon and coral-salmon are attempts to define its hue. The full blooms are medium to large in size; they keep their colour in hot weather, although the open flower is not particularly shapely, and sometimes drops its petals too quickly. Fashion is delightful for cutting, provided one cuts when the buds are well advanced. It has a distinct, wild-rose fragrance. Unfortunately the ample glossy green foliage is susceptible to fungus diseases, especially rust and black spot. Fashion does not winter well in some areas, although in built-up areas, where rust and black spot are of little if any significance, Fashion will often do very well. Elsewhere, Decapo (M. Leenders, 1960) should be tried. This variety is somewhat similar in colour and is decidedly less prone to disease.
