Black spot is caused by residual moisture on the foliage of the rose. It is much like a fungus or mold. Make sure to water your roses at the base and not over the foliage. Also make sure to choose planting site that will give your rose some good morning sun to evaporate the morning dew. There are also several concoctions you can make at home that will help prevent blackspot.
