'Anno X' was so named to mark the 10th anniversary of Mussolini's March on Rome.

I have just realised that hmf does refer to these roses (how I missed them I don't know). Sorry about that. But let me take this opportunity to appeal to any readers who have catalogues or other information relating to Fratelli Giacomasso to get in touch with me.

The 1937-8 Fratelli Giacomasso catalogue also contains references to two varieties, 'Asso Francesco Baracca' (a tribute to the celebrated flying "ace" F Baracca) and 'Addis Abeba', both described as Pernetian roses. There is no express claim in the catalogue that the company bred these varieties rather than simply introduced them and they might possibly have introduced roses bred by amateurs outside the company (as in the case of the variety 'Lydia Rossi') but I think it's right to list them as Giacomasso roses.
