Kim Rupert, a breeder from zone 9-10 California, informed that Deep Purple is fragrant, has a nice flower. I received Deep Purple as own-root: only 4 thorns to chop off - very low-thorn, leaves are glossy and dark green. This rose needs acidic rain and loamy potting soil to bloom well. It hated my alkaline clay, and died through a dry zone 5a winter.

Beautifully formed buds come singly, reddish violet color, very fragrant. My bush is 5 1/2 feet tall the first year of planting in San Francisco area.

Where did you buy it ? I just bought one from Vintage Roses, a sponser of this site. Did your bush grow that big from rooted cutting in one year? Does it smell as good as they say?

I probably bought it from Regan Nursery of Fremont, CA. I think Edmunds may also carry it but i have had such a hard time getting their roses going from bare root I'm not ordering from them again.
