I used to have Yolande d'Aragon in my old garden in Livorno. It was a grafted plant, a sparse grower and a shy bloomer, but the flowers were just the most gorgeous possible: flat and always perfectly quartered, very large, divinely fragrant. The leaves were nice looking too, quite large but with true old rose character. Never managed to make that plant really thrive, though. Now, I want to buy a new one for my new garden, and it'll be on own roots. I'll try to give her the best position possible (which it seems includes a few hours of partial shade). I think she would really deserve it. Here in Genoa, summers are markedly less hot then in Livorno, so I'm a little bit confident it'll do better here. I'm also experiencing very good, almost explosive growth and blooming with two other Portlands on own roots: Comte de Chambord and Rose de Resht. They're still in 6 l containers, yet they're looking extremely happy, suckering and/or giving new basal shoots like crazy, and in the while, also giving a lot of flowers. Hope Y.D.A. will react somewhat like that too.
