Hi, growing this first year in my garden. Yes, can get black spot no more and no less than other roses. Definitely repeat flowering, slow to start in the first 6 months and then she takes off, just like that. It’s winter now in Adelaide and she has not gone dormant at all but putting out more blooms than ever. I have 4 bushes. All doing well, varying degree of black spot.
Oh interesting, that does look like it's doing pretty well. How's it compare to 'Gertrude Jekyll' or 'Comte de Chambord' if you've grown either of them?
Hi, no I don’t grow Gertrude Jekyll or Comte de Chambord. I have seen Gertrude Jekyll and Comte de Chambord at public gardens. I think in terms of growth habit, Deane Ross is more compact than the other two. In terms of perfume, it’s no more no less. As I type, she’s still putting out buds and flowers even though we’ve had cold weather past two weeks. She doesn’t know to pat down for winter, LOL. So I guess, it’s a matter of which colour you prefer, and how much space you can give to the rose for it to grow to her full,potential. Do you live in Adelaide? If so you can see Deane Ross at the Urrbrae House Rose garden. I think they also have Gertrude and Chambord. If not, there’s lots of Gertrude at the International Rose Garden at the Adelaide Botanic Gardens. They are at the DA garden bed that slopes towards Plane Tree Drive. Good luck!
Hey Lucy, thanks for your reply! I've ended up getting one to experiment. I'm up in Sydney so we'll see how it survives the humidity. If it's marginally healthier and has a bit more repeat than 'Comte de Chambord' or 'Gertrude Jekyll' I'll be pretty happy.
It’s winter 2022 here in Adelaide, South Australia and my first year Deane Ross Roses are blooming even better then in summer earlier this year. Can’t wait till springtime! Photo shows 2 bushes in Autumn 2022, my garden.
