Don, to the best of my knowledge, no one is carrying the rose Tyrelle. There are a number of individuals in WIsconsin that have this rose. It was named in memory of a young lady that passed away, and now the lady that discovered and named this rose, Jan Steadler, has passed away. Besides myself, it's the relatives of these two ladies that own plants of this rose.

I have 2 Tyrelle plants here at my house. If you write again and remind me in July, I can send you some cuttings from it.

Hi Wendy, Wow, that would be awesome. I will remind you in July. I have never started a rose from cuttings, but my sister has, and she lives in Watsonville. That is about 80 miles from me, here in Oakland.

The reason I am so interested in it is that my daughter is graduating from college and would like one for her graduation rose. We have dozens of roses, and have a few antiques, 20 minis, 30 regulars.

I will write you again in July.

Thank you VERY much.

Hi Wendy,

I am writing to say hi and again confirm that I am looking forward to some cuttings. I will ask my garden friends what they suggest to get the cuttings off to a good start, but I would gladly accept any thoughts you have on the subject. Should we put the cuttings in the ground, or start in a pot on the porch, etc.

Hope your summer is going well.

Hi Don, I apologize: Things became quite busy here since May. Carefully thought out plans had to be thrown out as unexpected events have continued to come into our lives. I have spent very little time with my email. Now I am just trying my best to keep things watered outside. I will try to find a moment to send you some cuttings of Tyrelle. As far as how to root them, my advice is if you have a way that works for you, use it. There are many different methods used by "amateurs". The one that I here most often from different areas to the country is to prepare the cutting, dipping it in one of the rooting hormones, stick it in the ground in a mostly shady area and cover it with a glass jar. That's all. Around here we usually have enough rain but I would expect to have to water the ground around occasionally. After a couple of months, the cutting should be ready to dig up and transplant to a permanent home. I have yet to try this because we are dealing with critters that tunnel through the ground eating plants. The critters that do that here are voles. I know CA has there own and larger critters that do the same. There are ways to control them and that is just one of the many things occupying my time. (Just received a phone call notifying me of another unexpected event. Life is way more "interesting" than I could ever have imagined!) Please don't hesitate to remind me weekly.

Hi Wendy,

Thanks for answering. I hope your life settles down a bit, and I really appreciate your help by sending some cuttings of Tyrelle. We have a nice bunch of minis. About 25! My daughter Charmaine likes them a lot, and the Tyrelle is for her. Your personal message deal is not open here, so the best way for me to get you my address is to ask you to go to anywho.com and look for Donald Benham in Oakland California. That is my correct address. One of the phone numbers is correct....0990

As far as getting the cutting going, you mentioned what my Bonzai gardener friend, Phil Richardson, told me, so that should work great.

Best regards.

Don, when I am ready with the cuttings, I will contact you for your address. As I said, remind me often. Don't expect to be checking my email again this week, probably not until next Wed. or Thurs.
