Laurel Sommerfeld. Vale Lionel Chitts.
He credits Mlle Cécile Brunner with being a parent of his best-known seedling, which he called Lionel’s Pink China. Leonie Kearney at Samsonvale propagated it for him, so it is grown in many gardens throughout Australia, and in the SA and East Coast Trial Gardens. In the Mt Coot-tha Botanic Rose Gardens it blooms with great insouciance and fragrance beside the Helidon Sandstone Rose Sculpture, and a well-placed garden seat. Few other roses stood up to the horrors of a constantly wet summer as well as Lionel’s rose did. It makes a very large shrub which is very rarely without many beautiful pink clusters of blooms
