'12 Westerland OP 14' rose Reviews & Comments

Jay Jay, I just encountered photos of your rose on Face Book and it is beautiful! I wasn't aware of it or your other seedlings. I'm impressed! I wish it could have made it to the US, but unfortunately the nursery owners you hoped could bring it with them have sold and are remaining in France. I hope you and yours are safe and snug, far away from the virus! Keep up the good seedling raising!

Didn't get a notification Kim. Thank You for the compliment. How did You stumble upon Noortje on Facebook? For I'm not! The scent is good too! and did You take a look at its' sibling Veronica Ghislaine. In real life Vera was the old aunt of Noortje. Alas My sister Vera who lived in a hostel for mentally challenged persons, died last winter unexpectedly. She drowned after she left overnight the hostel and with her bad eyesight of 5% she stumbled and fell in a small ditch. As for Corona, in the region I live, there is almost no infection. But I'm very aware of its devastating effect. I'm ...prone... to it because of my health issues. Lots of people in this region do not believe that it is bad at all... just another flu and do not behave according to the guidelines. Even promote to come closer than 1 1/2m! Why is the photo not appearing, that I uploaded? On my own page it pops up under the photo's tab for Q&C.

Hi Jay Jay, I am so sorry for your loss. How horrible! Is that stunner with the gorgeous blue eyes Noortje? She's gorgeous! There is a gentleman in Britain who is a gardener for his town with many private clients also. He obtained Noortje, planted it and posted photos of it. I'm happy you aren't faced with a large concentration of the virus and that you and yours are so far safe. It startles me how many can't comprehend the severity of this pandemic and literally doubt its existence. It's sad the "American fools" have counter parts around the world.

Thank You Kim. And yes, that stunner is my granddaughter Noortje in 2014. And with the gentleman gardener in Britain You mean HMF member Andrew from Dolton? I presume. He is welcome to upload those photo's on HMF. So I can see how that rose behaves in another country. I would appreciate that!

I can only imagine what your grand daughter has matured into in the ensuing 5 years! Yes, Andrew posted the photos. I encourage many on Face Book to share the images on HMF so they remain as permanent documentation of what the roses look like. There are so many, particularly from Europe and Asia that aren't pictured there. I will ask Andrew again to post Noortje.

Pictures posted. Very sorry for your loss Jay-Jay. 'Noortje' has been damaged, (as have so many of my roses), by frosts in May. This happened last year too. Has anyone noticed that when a rose gets frosted it takes a long time to recover and will be weaker for the rest of the season? We are living in the safest place from C19 to live in the UK, it is also a place where lots of people want to visit, in great numbers, from all different parts of the UK. My partner is a key worker and I work for some very old and vulnerable people so we have to be careful about C19. Since March we wear face mask in shops. Otherwise we just live a very quiet life, we see no one and don't go in anyone's house, I am very lucky to have such a big garden.

Thank you Andrew! Oh, yes, in my household, the major "outing" is going to buy groceries! It's been masks out in public from the beginning.

In the (near) future, this rose might get available in the United States. An existing nursery in Europe is going to move to California and the owners intend to take this rose with them over there.

I'll send You per mail the answer. It is up to them(selves), to tell the public.

Done. They will take with them many Tea's, Noisettes and other rare roses.

Those are some stunning photos. 'Noortje' would appear to be a great improvement on 'Westerland'.
If the existing European nursery is the one I think it is, while I heartily wish the proprietors every success, I do hope they realize that California, which is where I heard someone might be relocating, in 2016 is much altered, and not for the better, from the California of 30 or even 20 years ago.
If it were me, I would also be considering the area around Puget Sound, also zone 8 and getting warmer, not so much affected by drought, a vibrant local foods and gardening scene, which means availability of employees whose experience did not come from large scale agribiz, and no existing heritage rose nursery.

Thank You Nastarana. I cross my fingers, that they manage to take that rose with them. I will forward to them the suggestions/proposals You made. This year or the next, Noortje will be evaluated at The Hague trials under a number.
