'Social Climber' rose References
Book (2009) Page(s) 47. Hayden Foulds. My Favourite Climbers. 'Social Climber'. I first saw this in the Palmerston North Trial Grounds where it won a Certificate of Merit about 10 years ago, and I was very impressed. The light yellow blooms are reminiscent of 'Compassion' which was bred from by the late Vic Hughes from Palmerston North. Should be more widely grown.
Book (2006) Page(s) 57. Hayden Foulds. Rose Breeding in New Zealand. In 2003, we saw the passing of Vic Hughes of Palmerston North who bred an excellent climber called 'Social Climber' (HUGsol). Bred from 'Compassion' x 'Handel', it's a medium yellow climber of good vigour and health and should be grown more widely.

p34. Peter Elliott. New Zealand International Rose Trial Ground. Trial 28. 1996-1998 Other winners of certificates of merit were: 'Social Climber' - bred by long time Manawatu rosarian Vic Hughes. The colour is the main feature about this HT rose in that it has a deeper yellow / gold centre and paler outer petals. Something a bit different. As the name suggests it is a climbing rose.
