'Spotty' rose Reviews & Comments

I just bought 'Spotty' from Rogue Valley Roses. I can't wait to get this one! I plan to cross it with 'Ebb Tide' and a couple dark red HTs,. Mr Lincoln for one... I love the spots. I'd like to see another, dark rose with this trait, plus re-bloom.

So do I! If you are interested, Midnight Blue and related purples, as well as some rather random other roses throw spotting. See: CARXLB http://www.rosebreeders.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=56358#p56358 https://www.helpmefind.com/gardening/l.php?l=21.245981
and Fara Shimbo's roses, of course! I wish you luck!

Cheryl's web site (one of the first OGR sites on the Web!) is still available, although hasn't been updated in ages: http://www.cnetter.net/
From that URL come the following remarks about the rose "Spotty", aka "Gallica seedling #3":
"It is rather obvious that this is a seedling from Alain Blanchard. It is very similar, with its purplish blooms covered in pink spots. The blooms don't last very long, maybe only a couple of days per bloom, but there are many many blooms. The flowers are semi-double and close up at night, or if taken inside to a dark room. Not much fragrance. The bush is about 3 feet tall and 5 feet wide. It has typical dark green gallica foliage and dense, shrub like growth with upright, thin canes covered in tiny prickles. It is quite winter hardy and carefree."
