Mr. Suzuki had already owned this splendid collection in the late 1980s, when rose lovers in Japan became aware of the beauty of old roses. However, he did not use old roses so frequently for his breeding work. As far as I know, there are only two varieties: a Polyantha rose Yorokobi (meaning “Joy” in Japanese), a seedling of R. multiflora, and a Hybrid Rugosa Benihamanashi ("Scarlet Rugosa").
