Nuttall, in his "Genera of North American Plants, &c.," says of it " A very fine flowering species, but nearly scentless; abundant round Detroit and through all the western states to Louisiana." When first I saw this species it struck me as offering a good foundation on which to build up a new floral group, and although little progress towards the attainment of this end has yet been made, I still think it is one of the things of the future. 5. Linnæan Hill Beauty; flowers pale blush, very double.
