It was obtained by Louis Parmentier, brother of the horticulturalist Joseph Parmentier, caretaker of the Arenberg estate in Enghien, Belgium. Prior to this, Parmentier has raised another gallica called 'Isis' and the existence of these two roses may explain some of the disparities in older descriptions.
