p418. Thomas Sutcliffe Mort (1816-1878)

p280. ....in 1849 Guilfoyle and his family, wife Charlotte (nee Delafosse) and son William, migrated to Sydney aboard the Steadfast. He established a nursery in Kellick Street, Refern, which soon failed. He was then fortunate in obtaining the patronage of T. S. Mort, the wealthy industrialist and active horticulturist..... Mort was president of the Horticultural Society of New South Wales, the publisher of the magazine and Guilfoyle was listed in it as one of the ‘good and first-rate gardeners’, formerly employed at Greenoaks. Mort owned land at Double Bay, down the hill from Greenoaks, where he had his vegetable garden, orchard, and offices and Guilfoyle occupied a cottage there at the corner of South and Ocean streets. By 1851 he had established a nursery on three and a half acres (1.4ha) of land belonging to Mort.
