3 to 5 feet   Z7-11 R Fr yb. "Soncy" is a found rose that reminds us greatly of our tea rose, 'Perle des Jardins'. It has the same nice tea fragrance, size, and flowers of pale yellow to ivory. It differs in that it rarely produces thorns on its stems; most of its prickles are under the leaves and are of little concern. The flowers rarely ball in our humidity, unlike 'Perle des Jardins', and make a nice display throughout the growing season.

"Soncy" was found growing at a house named Soncy in Point Shares. At first it was thought to be 'Isabella Sprunt', the yellow sport of 'Safrano', but Dr. Charles Walker saw it in 1984 and remarked that while "Soncy" is fully double, 'Isabella Sprunt' is semi-double. In Bermuda "Soncy" has been found difficult to slip. DNA analysis at a laboratory in Montreal, Canada, has shown that "Soncy', 'Alexander Hill Gray' and 'Amazone' appear to share at least a partial genetic origin. At Vintage Gardens in California "Soncy" is thought to be identical to 'Alexander Hill Gray'

Tests on samples of 'Amazone' (USA), 'Alexander Hill Gray' (USA) and "Soncy" (Bermuda) resulted in similar findings of a partial genetic origin.

It is good that this fine rose ['Alexander Hill Gray']  is making something of a comeback, at least in temperate areas of Australia and the United States, and also in Bermuda, where it is known as "Soncy".

Large lemon-ivory to ivory-white high centered blooms with a delicious Tea scent; stems plum colored, leaves olive green. We offer this because it is one of the Bermuda mystery roses, but believe it identical with 'Alexander Hill Gray'.
