Origin:

Bred by Joseph Pernet-Ducher (France, before 1885).
Introduced in France by Pernet-Ducher, Joseph in 1898 as 'Soleil d'Or'.
Introduced in Australia by George Brunning - St. Kilda Nurseries in 1904 as 'Soleil d'Or'.

Class:

Hybrid Foetida/Lutea, Pernetiana.

Bloom:

Golden-yellow, rose-red shading, darker center. Strong, spice fragrance. Average diameter 4". Large, full (26-40 petals), borne mostly solitary, in small clusters, flat, globular bloom form. Occasional repeat later in the season.

Habit:

Dense, upright. Dense foliage.

Height: 2' to 4'11" (60 to 150cm). Width: 3' (90cm).

Growing:

USDA zone 6b and warmer. Vigorous. Disease susceptibility: susceptible to blackspot . Spring Pruning: Remove old canes and dead or diseased wood and cut back canes that cross. In warmer climates, cut back the remaining canes by about one-third. In colder areas, you'll probably find you'll have to prune a little more than that.

Notes:

'Soleil d'Or' was put on the market on 1 November 1900. Soleil d'Or is grown in Zone 3 Alberta, Canada where it survives with no winter protection other than snow cover.
