'Rapture' rose References
Magazine (2020) Page(s) 21. Vol 42, No. 2. Sue Zwar. ....old Hybrid Teas down Petticoat Lane. and *“Rapture” with one of the loveliest scents of all. No wonder so many passers-by comment about the fragrance wafting in the air as they walk along Petticoat Lane!
* Ed: Unfortunately these two don’t match early descriptions, and the original roses may be lost everywhere. If we all find space for a rarity or three, suited to our soil and climate, and list our plants on helpmefind.com, it helps the goals of HRIA.
Book (2013) Page(s) 89. Marguerite Parkes. 'Rapture' (HT, Traendly and Schenck 1926). I remember the beautiful form and long stems of 'Rapture'. The petals in creamy pink shades had substance, and, if I remember, there was a fragrance as well. Foliage was attractive and the shade of green set off the creamy pink blooms well.

Book (1957) Page(s) 141. Allen Brundrett. Best Twenty-Four Garden Roses. ‘Rapture’ this variety represents the ‘Ophelia’ group (‘Ophelia and its sports, ‘Mme. Butterfly’, ‘Lady Sylvia’, ‘Rapture’ etc.), and in my opinion is the most worthy. If two varieties are required from this group, then ‘Ophelia’ the palest, and ‘Rapture’ the deepest pink, should be chosen, but if only one is desired, then ‘Rapture’ is the choice as the deeper shade is less affected by the weather and thrips, as well as coarseness. Refined form and freedom from disease are the outstanding qualities of the group.

Book (1947) Page(s) 39. C. A. Brown, Ivanhoe, Vic. Favourite Roses. Of all the Roses I know none is more aptly named than Rapture. It is a sport of Madame Butterfly, which, in turn, sported from Ophelia, and is thus one of a great family. Actually, I consider it the best of the Ophelia family, with its freely produced, perfectly shaped blooms of deep salmon. Its habit of growth, good foliage and freedom from disease makes it a good garden subject, either as a bush plant or a standard. If ever, by some mischance, I should have room for one Rose only, that Rose would be Rapture.
Book (1947) Page(s) 127. Rapture (Garden & Show) Another of Madame Butterfly sports, with little difference except in depth of shading at times. This is less pronounced than in Lady Sylvia, which sets a standard. Still, a very beautiful pink garden rose. Fragrant. Habit 3. (HT)
