From the Rosen-Zeitung 1893, page 9:

"Neuste Rosen für 1892-93.
Beschreibungen der Züchter.

François Ménard (Thee). Strauch niedrig, sehr wüchsig, buschig, ziemlich glatt und dickholzig, schön dunkelgrün belaubt; Knospe sehr dick auf festem Stiele, Blume sehr gross, sehr gefüllt, kugelig, schöne Haltung; schön carmoisinrot, Mitte kirschrot in sammtig carmoisin übergehend, extra, reichblühend. (Entstanden aus einer Samenpflanze)."

My translation:

François Ménard (Tea). Shrub low, very vigorous, bushy, fairly smooth and thick-wooded, beautiful dark green foliage; bud very thick on a firm stem, flower very large, very double, globular, beautifully held; beautiful crimson red, centre cherry red blending to velvety crimson, choice, floriferous. (originates from a seedling).
