The last year of the war brought two China Roses (Teplitz X Cramoisi): Mathilde Ries and the rose dedicated to his daughter Gertrud Kiese, which had an expert like Mr. Türke carried away in admiration when he saw it for the first time.

Gertrud Kiese, Hybrid China. (Herm. Kiese & Co., 1918.)
This rose is from the same crossing as Mathilde Ries, but is shorter in habit and more like the seed parent in colour. This novelty darkens more when fully expanded and is very like a small bloom of Château de Clos Vougeot. Small graftings in the box resulted in quite vigorous blooms, so that she will find use as forced cutting rose, also both roses will be well suitable as container roses in the room. I hope that both sorts will secure for themselves a good place. I am thinking of placing them in commerce in autumn.
