Species group Rosa canina L. Differentiates from the species group R. rubiginosa by following characteristic: Leaves generally without glands beneath, seldom some glands on the mid nerve.

Rosa caésia Sm. agg. Lederblättrige Rose, Rosier à feuilles coriaces, Rosa a fogle coriacee. Foliage downy pubescent overall or at least on the nerves beneath, generally singly serrated. Petioles always pubescent, with glands and sickle-shaped prickles. Pedicels glabrous. Sepals extended or erect after blooming, persistent until fruit ripens. June-July. Shrub; branches often covered with a glaucous bloom; prickles generally large, with broadened base, curved; leaves mostly medium -sized, often approximate, indurate, often with 9 leaflets, green, without glaucous tinge, glabrous or appressed -hairy above, more or less densely pubescent to nearly tomentose beneath, eglandulose, very rarely with remote glands; stipules with densely glandular margins, auricles densely appressed-hairy below, upper stipules markedly broadened; petioles tomentose-pubescent. Flowers as in R.afzeliana; pedicels short, less than 6 mm long; sepals gray -pubescent, divergent or turned upward, persistent to ripening; style heads tomentose, sessile; fruit as in R.afzeliana, which is generally very similar except for the pubescence of the leaves. Rose Species
Rosa Coriifolia, Fries. (Europe and Western Asia.) Light pink flowers about 2 inches in diameter, with short stems and large bracts. A tall-growing, very thorny shrub which is closely allied to R. canina, resembling it considerably in habit.
