Mr. Court Marshall v. St. Paul in Fischbach collects all rose varieties with rugosa blood. ...Rosa rugosa, Thunberg....deren gefüllte Varietät seit mehr als 30 jahren Bewohnerin unserer Gärten ist. Demungeachtet wurde die wildwachsende Art neuerdings wieder als "Rosa Regeliana, Linden et André und die Varietät R. rugosa flore pleno unter den Namen "Kaiserin des Nordens"eingeführt. Die Kultur aller hierher gehörenden Varietäten flore albo simplici, flore roseo simplici, flore rubro pleno (Kaiserin des Nordens), Souvenir de Yeddo, Mikada, Taïcoun, Comte de Epremesnil u. A.)ist eine überaus leichte. Sie sind, mit Ausnahme 'Souvenir de Yeddo', welche Varität vom Froste leidet, vollkommen winterhart, gedeihen, ohne beschnitten zu werden, in jedem Boden und in jeder Lage....die Varietäten 'Mikado' und 'Souvenir de Yeddo' welch beide das charakteristische Blattwerk des Species nicht besitzen, werthlos.

Rosa rugosa, Thunberg .... whose double variety has lived in our gardens for more than 30 years. Nonetheless, the wild species has recently been reintroduced as "Rosa Regeliana, Linden et André" and the variety R. rugosa flore pleno under the name "Kaiserin des Nordens". The culture of all the varieties that belong here: flore albo simplici, flore roseo simplici, flore rubro pleno (Kaiserin des Nordens), Souvenir de Yeddo, Mikada, Taïcoun, Comte de Epremesnil, etc.) is an extremely light one. With the exception of 'Souvenir de Yeddo', which suffers from frost, they are completely hardy, thrive without to be pruned, in every soil and in every position .... the varieties 'Mikado' and 'Souvenir de Yeddo' which neither have the characteristic foliage of the species, are worthless.
