No, I do not think/presume that. The scent just reminded me of Mme. Alfred Carrière. The part of the scent similar to Elder-flowers.

Introduced in United Kingdom by David Austin Roses Limited (UK) in 2002 as 'The Generous Gardener'.
Shrub. English Rose Collection.
Light pink. Strong, musk, myrrh, old rose fragrance. 41 petals. Average diameter 2.5". Large, double (17-25 petals), full (26-40 petals), very full (41+ petals), in small clusters bloom form. Spring or summer flush with scattered later bloom.
Tall, bushy, well-branched. Large, glossy, dark green foliage.
Height of up to 4' 11" (up to 150 cm). Width of 4' (120 cm).
USDA zone 5b through 9b. Can be used for cut flower, garden, landscape or shrub. Disease susceptibility: very disease resistant. Remove spent blooms to encourage re-bloom. Spring Pruning: Remove old canes and dead or diseased wood and cut back canes that cross. In warmer climates, cut back the remaining canes by about one-third. In colder areas, you'll probably find you'll have to prune a little more than that.

Yes, the generous gardener is a climber, although it took many seasons in my garden (Vancouver, Canada) to send branches long enough to climb!

My experience with the Generous Gardener has been mixed and I'm considering removing it from my garden. It looks like a healthy plant but even in it's 4th season it bloomed only once. The flush was incredible and the fragrance is nice. Doesn't work as a cut flower for me, blooms shatter within minutes unless they're buds. I have around 60 roses and many repeat without issue. Even some of my once bloomers give sporadic flowers in the summer while this one does nothing. Very disappointed--perhaps I'm doing something wrong?

I agree that the first flush is fantastic, but I do get later blooms, sporadic, into September and October, but nothing like the main flush, but as I do get them, I cannot call it a once bloomer.. My rose is less than 3 years in the ground, grafted.

I'm not a great fan of David Austin roses but I gave a plant of 'The Generous Gardener' to a friend for Christmas 2016 (because they were). It did very well for her and repeated at the end of July and September/October too. We live in a high rain fall area with cool summers, I don't know what your climate is like but maybe this is a clue? One of its parents, 'Constance Spry', also does well in this area too.
