What is your USDA hardiness zone? Cutting a rose down to the ground in the fall is far outside the norm, to say the least, especially for a plant that should be 5-6 feet tall and wide.
If you study the description and NOTES on Adelaide Hoodless, you will see that it is extremely cold hardy (down to Zone 2) and that severe pruning is not recommended. Roses in colder climates are often topped in fall as the first step in winter protection, but unless you live in a really cold location, this rose should handle winter without protection and certainly without being cut to the ground in the fall. You will probably get much better advice from your local rose society.
The Adelaide Hoodless is a hardy rose and a prolific bloomer, but is a blackspot magnet. I still love the little bush and there's a great history on the woman it's named after.
