Long John Silver. (the rose sold as….) This could be its sister variety ‘Iceland Queen’. Medium, cupped, full; white, sometimes tinged blush. Strong musky scent. It repeats well for us. Extremely vigorous. 4m x 7m

Our ‘Long John Silver’ is the same as the rose they [Phillip Robinson and Gregg Lowery] grow under this name, but Dan Russo in Rhode Island suggests that it may be ‘Iceland Queen’ because the Elizabeth Park Garden in Connecticut has an original planting of ‘Long John Silver’ that is slightly different.

"Long John Silver". R (LCl). No rebloom. Outstanding fragrance. Habit: diagram 2. Unknown breeder, Unknown date. (Provenance Heirloom]. Very double, powder-white flowers that open with an old-fashioned, flat, quartered effect, this very vigorous rambler seems most likely misnamed, as the original variety, raised from a Pernetiana parent, 'Sunburst', was cream tinted. Dan Russo shared this with us as well as photos of the less double, cream tinted rose from Elizabeth Park in Connecticut. Dan suggests that one possibility for this cultivar is the Horvath hybrid, 'Iceland Queen'. Thank you, Dan.
