Governor has been an excellent performer in Atlanta. The plant I have is grafted onto fortuniana. In its second year, it has reached a height of over seven feet. No bare knees at all. The canes are leafy from top to bottom. The blooms are a little on the small side. But, each flush yields at least 30 blooms (which more than makes up for the small size). Even in between cycles, there is always a few blooms on the bush. There is a nice fragrance (not overly strong) and the blooms are perfectly formed little spirals. An all around great addition to the garden.

Was searching for a fragrant red rose, and found this comment in Rose forum:

After that you should try to track down Papa Meilland, I love fragrant red roses and his fragrance, to my nose, is the strongest true rose. A little known red rose whose fragrance wafts through the air more than any other I know is Governor Rosellini. The blooms are smaller than some HT's, (maybe that is why it is not well known?) but the repeat is super fast and there are lots of blooms. They last well on the bush and in a vase. Smells like rosy, strawberry kool-aid; my 11 yr old daughter just loves it! : ) rosyjennifer(z 6/7 MD)
