Everblooming Roses
The so-called Everblooming Roses include the Hybrid Tea and Pernetiana groups. They do not bloom all the time, but if kept healthy and growing steadily, one crop of flowers succeeds another at brief intervals.
Commandant L. Bartre. Hybrid Tea. (A. Schwartz, 1919.) Light carmine-red, cup-shaped flowers, full, crinkled in center, fairly large, extremely fragrant. Growth strong and branching; foliage dark; free blooming and hardy.
Much like old-fashioned Roses in form, with the same rich and satisfying fragrance. Color is rather weak outdoors but quite attractive when flower is cut in bud. A splendid, overlooked bedding variety, commendable for excellent growth, blooming, and delicious perfume. We doubt very much that this is a pure HybridTea. It has many characteristics of the China or Bourbon class and perhaps should be included in a group with Grass an Teplitz, Hermosa, and the like.

Commandant L. Bartre (A. Schwartz, 1919): intense and most satisfying fragrance, but weak in its light-red color, and it balls badly in heat. Good growth and most prolific flowering.

COMMANDANT L. BARTRE (Schwartz). — Arbuste très vigoureux, fleur grande, très pleine, s'ouvrant bien et de jolie forme. Beau coloris rouge nuancé de rose satiné, pétales du centre chiffonnés, parfait pour la fleur coupée.

Le Concours d'Apports de Juin....
M. Schwartz, rosiériste, 230, route de Vienne, au Moulin-à-Vent, par Vénissieux (Rhône), exposait une intéressante collection de 60 variétés, parmi lesquelles un certain nombre étaient des semis obtenus par sa maison au cours de ces dernières années. Nous citerons parmi ces nouveautés : Julia Bartet, hybride de Thé, pétales jaunes à revers rougeâtre passant au rose en s’épanouissant ; Comte de Rochemude, rouge cerise : Commandant L. Bartre, rose vif ; Roger Lambelin, pétales un peu récurvés, rouges, marginés de blanc ; Victor Hugo, d’un rouge extrêmement brillant. Les autres variétés de la collection comprenaient quelques-unes de celles déjà notées dans le lot de M. Meilland ; nous y ajouterons : Rayon dé Or, jaune cuivré ; Louise-Catherine Breslau, rouge corail ; Cissie Easlea, jaune rosé; Louise Baldwin, jaune abricoté.
