'Athabasca' rose References
Article (misc) (17 Sep 1973) Walter Schowalter notes: Athabasca - R. woodsii - Height 1.25 - 1.50 m. Primary stem prickly, secondary stem few scattered prickles, especially at stipules. Leaves 6.7 to 13 cm. Leaflets troughed. 2.5 x 1.3 to 4.8 x 2.9 cm. Shape mostly elliptic. Leaflets mostly 9. Fruit scarlet, mostly ovate, sometimes roundish, carried erect or at a slight angle. Sepals erect. Petals mostly 15, light pink. Fruit average 1.6 L x 1.4 cm w. Short prickles on midrib.
Website/Catalog (1949) Page(s) 4. Athabasca - a semi-double sport of our native Rosa Macounii, found growing wild at Vilna, Alberta, north of Edmonton. Completely hardy, and very vigorous. Suitable for hedge use, except that it suckers. the flower is a pale pink, attractive for that color. Sets almost no seed hips.
