Is this a found rose or a relatively recently bred tea rose? The 1993 Antique Rose Emporium catalogue reference gives it a date of 1984 and that it had been submitted to be registered with the American Rose Society. The same catalogue lists 'Mrs. Dudley Cross' (with a photo), so it's probably unlikely 'Francis Leake' is the same as that variety.

It was not listed in Modern Roses 10 (1993) or 12 (2007) so possibly the wording of “registraction” might have been a bit of a distraction from the unlikely event of a foundling being registered.

Thank you. It did seem a bit strange. It's a very beautiful rose in any case.

It looks very like Mrs Dudley Cross.

I am wondering if this could be Mrs. Dudley Cross?

Aha! Some of the photos posted had what Billy Teabag calls the "lemon meringue pudding" appearance of Mrs Dudley Cross, which is why I asked about prickles. Bad timing - some of the Tealadies are heading out today for some serious rose-spotting, so we'll have to wait till they get back for their comments.
Thanks for the extra photos.

It had been IDed as White Maman Cochet, but I don't think that's what it is. I also looked at Mrs Dudley Cross, but that didn't quite match either. Also not quite like Marie Van Houtte.

The poor foliage suggests it might also be Blumenschmidt, which has thornless blooming laterals. Vegetative centers would complete the picture.

That would have a form more like Freddie Kruger, which it doesn't. Never a veg center either. I'll try to get more pictures this Saturday.

I agree no veg centers that I have seen. The main canes are thornless (prickle-less?) too.

Hello Jill.
How did it differ from 'Mrs. Dud'?

I don't see this rose in Countryside's list...

We don't either - we've removed Countryside from the supplier list.
