"There is a slight difference between Ames 5 and Ames 6. Ames 6 is more slender caned and has smaller shiny leaves than Ames 5. They are both difficult to root from hardwood cuttings and have a relatively narrow compatibility range. They are both very resistant to nematodes---a trait the Texas nurserymen found very desirable. They have both been dropped now. However, I used Ames 5 in my understock breeding programme and Iowa 62-5, I.T.-9 and I.T.-18 are the result. All three of these are quite resistant to virus infection, too.
