'Royal Marbrée' rose References
Book (Jul 1998) Page(s) 254. ROYAL(E) MARBRÉ (E), before 1837,... This variety appeared for the first time in the catalogue of Sisley-Vandael in 1837: it is descibed there as "wine-red marbled". As Sisley-Vandael were specialised in imports from Holland and Belgium, and as one finds this variety in the catalogue of Van Houtte (Gent) of 1843, one can believe that it is a Belgian cultivar. In any case, the examples which are in the three collections mentioned above [Gap-Charance, L'Haÿ, Sangerhausen] do not correspond to the description of Van Houtte (in particular, the blooms are not marbled) : also it is not impossible that this variety is extinct.
