Is this sport as good a garden rose as Grandmother's Hat? I have heard nothing but rave reviews for G's H. for vigor, health, foliage and rebloom, and this rose looks lovely in the pics too. Comments on either rose or the other sport (Tina something-or-other) would be appreciated.... Thank you! sally love

This rose and Grandma's Hat sport back and forth to each other frequently enough that I doubt you'll find any differences in how they grow. In the SF bay area, they both do equally well, growing vigorously and blooming profusely, but will blackspot if unsprayed.

All things being equal, Larry Daniels has a better flower color. In real life, Grandmother's hat is a dull boring shade of medium pink that is common to Hybrid Perpetuals. The sport is a pale pink with blush highlights and shimmers when sunlight passes through the petals, the effect is fresh and ethereal, & as beautiful as any David Austin introduction. ~ Benaminh

Tina Marie is the other light sport, and probably identical to Larry Daniels.

For the discoverer, Tom Liggett... " The real Larry Daniels (my cousin) was truly a rare and wonderful person. His death killed his Mom sure as if a gun had been used (she was my favorite Aunt, too.). She got some small pleasure over Larry having been "immortalized", but Damn, boy, how does a Mom get over THAT one (she didn't-there's one answer)?"
