Thanks again Jane. I wonder what was meant by the sentence ….. Of the white Lady Maries…..in the 1890 reference.

from 1890 an article which notes that 2 forms of the white sport of Souvenir d'un Ami were grown (in New South Wales, AUS) with the English version having more vigour.
(somehow I deleted original post - grrr)
don't know,Trove is down at the moment, I'll see if I can find other references later that may clarify that comment.

probably referring to Lady Mary Fitzwilliam I think, White Lady being a sport via William Paul in 1888.

Well I found 'Maid of the Mist' (syn 'White Lady').
But now there is another challenge as there are two 'White Lady's:
White Lady (HT. Bennett. 1890)
White Lady (HT, Paul 1888)

as a point of interest the Charles Bennett referred to was one of the sons of Henry Bennett, but I haven't found any other refs to M of the M ...

Almost all Rose sports have a tendency to revert. Souvenir de S. A. Prince sported from Souvenir d’un Ami simultaneously in more than one place, and it is not infrequent to find various shades of pink upon this sport.
