James Sprunt China. Sprunt, 1858. Sport of 'Cramoisi Supérieur'. The author cites information from different sources... Carmine-red, just the same as its parent, but fuller and larger... cherry red... Rev. James M. Sprunt, D.D., a Presbyterian clergyman of Kenansville, North Carolina, divided some strong plants of 'Agrippina' ['Cramoisi Supérieur']. Afterwards he observed a single shoot from one of these plants growing vigorously without flowers or branches; it grew over fifteen ft [ca. 5 m] before it showed any flower buds, the rest of the plant retaining its normal characteristics... The flowers... are somewhat larger and fuller than 'Agrippina'...
