Origin:
Bred by François Lacharme (France, 1862).
Class:
Hybrid Perpetual.  
Bloom:
Fiery red, often edged with white.  Large, full (26-40 petals) bloom form.  Blooms in flushes throughout the season.  
Growing:
USDA zone 6b through 9b (default).  
Patents:
Patent status unknown (to HelpMeFind).

Notes:
The earliest references to this rose describe it as a fiery, vivid red; by the 1880's it began to be described as purplish red, which indicates that it probably became confused in commerce with the similarly named Hybrid Perpetual, 'Baron de Rothschild', which see.

Please note that there were two other Hybrid Perpetuals from the 1860's with similar names: Guillot's 'Baron de Rothschild' (referenced in the above note) and Pernet's 'Baronne de Rothschild', which see.
