Magazine (2005) Page(s) 36. Vol 99, Part 1. Includes photo(s). Sean McCann. There's a new rose just been issued in South Africa - they call it 'Jealous Joey'! But I'm afraid it is aiming too high to even consider itself in the same category as 'Just Joey' that lovely HT. 'Jealous Joey' is, according to Ludwig Taschner who introduced it, "bred by Bob Mathews of New Zealand where it is sold under the name 'Grand Prix'. Since a red cut rose is sold under this name in SA we had to look for another name. The colour is very much that of 'Just Joey', the blooms are similar to David Austin's English Roses, full, slightly quartered and frilly, quite large for a compact bush." 'Just Joey' has nothing to worry about here, I believe.

'Grand Prix' (MATTarb) Matthews 1999; 8 reports on 14 bushes; 1-2 years; 1 metre; 7.5 rating. Apricot/peach blooms with frilly petals, fragrant. Wairarapa says always in flower and a good garden rose. Otago finds the bush compact and very healthy with lots of new growth. Does well in a tough spot. Marlborough had few flowers and little growth and downy mildew. Gisborne like the unusual colour but the bush doesn't like heavy rain. Wairoa says colour is like a tomato and the shape unusual.
