Heart's Desire and Nocturne are good roses but not as good as others in their same shades of red. Colonel Sharman Crawford, Grace Moore and Liebesglut are all fairly dark with a little more life in their colour than Crimson Glory. They are all more reliable in their growth than their better known rival, but, with me, the blooms are not quite as well formed. Liebesglut appears to be the best of the trio, and I would not hesitate in advising it in preference to Crimson Glory as a garden rose.

Rose Nomenclature
By the Editor
As no doubt some of our members are aware, a very unsatisfactory situation with respect to Rose names has arisen within the past few years due to the practice of certain large commercial firms in re-naming Roses of European origin, contrary to and in defiance of "International Rules of Botanical Nomenclature" and its supplementary schedule known as Appendix VII (Nomenclature of Garden Plants).
Valid Name: Liebesglut
Re-christened: Crimson King
Magazine  (Feb 1950)  Page(s) 1. trimester, p. 13.

Liebesglut HT. (Kordes, 1943)  Long buds opening to deep crimson, fragrant double blooms on vigorous growths. There have been indications of mildew but not to any great extent so far. The name might be translated as "Loves Glow", but it was altered contrary to rules to 'Crimson King' in U.S.A. Very many rose lovers deeply resent the way in which the original raiser has his feelings callously trampled on by people who had no part whatever in the skilful raising of the variety.
