'Madame Desprez' rose References
Article (magazine) (2016) Page(s) 21. 'Mme. Desprez' is not commercially available, but a sample from Roseraie du Val-de-Marne à L'Haÿ-les-Roses of a rose grown by that name was analyzed. We later learned the identity of this rose was questioned....Microsatellite analysis ...showed that this cultivar was unrelated to 'Hermosa'.

Book (2005) Page(s) 235. The reputation of the flesh pink Bourbon quickly spread. It was on sale in France in 1823, in England two years later and in 1828 it reached the United States. Progress in raising new varieties was slow for the first ten years. They were criticised because of their ‘sad colours’ and failure to open in damp weather. Success was assured after 1833, however, when Jean Desprez brought out ‘Charles Desprez’ and ‘Mme. Desprez’. The last one, in addition to its pretty, varied shades of mauve, pink and lilac, proved a fecund ancestor.
Book (Nov 1994) Page(s) 314. In 1831, the Bourbon-Noisette 'Mme Desprez' appeared, adding purple to the rose colour... 'Mme Desprez' added to her laurels in 1842 by producing that wonderful Bourbon Rose 'Souvenir de la Malmaison', which in its turn produced the popular 'Gloire de Dijon'. In both cases the other parent was a Tea Rose.

An interesting note appears in the records of the Pennsylvania Horticulture Society for May 1832, when a Bourbon rose was shown and described as a hardy climbing variety, with large flowers similar in size and color to the provence Rose, 8 feet (2.4m) high, covered with flowers' and making a fine appearance. Buist was enthusiastic over Bourbons.... He specifically mentioned importing in 1833 'Madame Desprez' (incidentally, a parent of 'Souvenir de la Malmaison')....
