'Duchess of York' rose Reviews & Comments

The 1992 reference listed only two roses DICRacer and DICreason, but mentioned three certificates. "Pat and Colin Dickson also granted three Trial Ground Certificates....'Duchess of York' DICracer, a bright orange red Cluster Flower seedling which had a good scent. The parentage was 'Bonfire' x 'Peter Goldman'." Possibly there was something missing and the parentage of 'Bonfire' x Peter Goldman' was for a third rose.

Presumably this was named after Sarah Ferguson, its flame orange would suit her auburn hair. On her marriage to Prince Andrew in 1986 they were both given the titles of Duke and Duchess of York. So although the rose was bred before this it could only have been named 'Duchess of York' after July 1986.

This rose is a splashy wonder. Very healthy foliage without spraying, most of my HT look very shaggy beside her. Patio Rose: Her actual hight now is about 1.30 m! I guess, with a bit of pampering she will make a beautiful tall bush ;-)
