Legendary. And so distinctive. Plants get pretty wide and rather tall, foliage is glossy and deep green and quite large for the size of the bloom. Color is so pure, no blue, no orange, and the petal substance is like cardboard. Some of the largest bloom panicles I have ever seen on a modern cluster flower have been on Europeana and they are so bountiful that they can result in one of the possible draw-backs to this variety: the canes will bend to the ground under the weight of the panicles. Staking is almost required. Crimson Bouquet is a more compact plant with similar color. Showbiz leans orange, is lighter in color, smaller in stature but also capable of those huge panicles. All 3 are excellent red bedding varieties but Europeana is the most distinctive in my opinion. It may need to be watched for mildew but its decently resistant to blackspot here in damp, hot summered Columbus, Ohio.
Europeana is one of my favorite red roses. Unfortunately, it gets powdery mildew so badly in the damp climate of San Francisco that I can't grow it without constant spraying, something I am not prepared to do. Where mildew isn't a problem or grown by someone who will spray regularly, you'll not find a more beautiful red floribunda.
This is one of my husbands favorite rose in my garden. It is such a beautiful shade of orange-red. I live in zone 5 and this rose does really well, even after our late freeze this year it is coming right back out of it. I consider it to be very cold hardy and a reliable bloomer and one of the most asked about by men. Maybe its the color.
