Mr. Nieuwenhuizen was one of the leading Peony growers in the Netherlands and when he came to America, in 1921, he left many of his seedlings in the care of relatives. After joining the Cottage Gardens organization in 1928, we induced Mr. Nieuwenhuizen to bring his best seedlings over to this country for our observation and we believe that the five varieties we are introducing this year will prove of great interest to Peony Fanciers, Professional Growers, and amateur gardeners. Bella Donna—Light mauve pink, opening perfectly to a uniform ethereal pink, some petals slightly edged carmine. Fine form. Very fine bud, rose type. Mr. Nieuwenhuizen's Peonies are not new to the American public since his origination, Mr. L. Van Leeuwen, was awarded first prize for the best crimson Peony at the exhibition of the American Peony Society at Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Rio Grande—Stem three feet tall, straight and erect. Foliage dark green, the flower is very double, intermingled with a few stamens, hiding between the large petals.
