First bud on my cutting-grown plant of "David's Dilemma", a darker pink than many of the photos here. I'm impressed with the attractive pink-plum stems which contrast nicely with the bright green semi-glossy foliage. Sydney, 12/9/25. Provenance: Margaret Furness.
Looking forward to the fragrance.

Same bud, opening up. 16/9/25.
I'm reserving my proper assessment of the fragrance for now as I have some hayfever, but my first impression is that it's fruity and reminded me of the scent of 'Mrs B R Cant'.

If this really is 'Socrate', could this be the "somewhat jagged petals" mentioned in the 12th March 1887 'The Garden' reference? 15/9/25.

"David's Dilemma" bloom stems often have three bracts - either two single lobed bracts and a small leaf with three leaflets, or one single-lobed bract and two three-leaflet leaves.
Other variations are also seen - eg bracts with one or two formed leaflets as seen here in the lower example.
Perth, Western Australia, winter.
