Can someone help me identify a christmas rose? My aunt wants to know where she can get a rose that blooms in the winter. She saw it on TV.

The christmas rose is a very old legend set in Christ's time. It is about a young girl that cries and her tears melt the snow and a flower is exposed. However the flower is not a rose it is called helleborus niger. This is a five petalled white flower that sometimes has a pink flush to it and a green center. The plant grows in mountainous areas and doesn't mind snow. Many gardeners grow it because it pokes through the snow and bloom at Christmas time.

Usually at nurseries it is called a Lenten Rose.

Here is a picture of the helleborus niger. Another group of flowers she may be interested in are cold hardy camellia's that bloom in late autumn. My favorites are "Winter Rose" and "Winters Charm" I have included a picture of them as well.
