is it unusual to have a double coloured head on one flower i.e 50/50 half and half

Roses have many other coloured roses in their background. When you get a rose that is half and half, it is because it is starting to revert to another rose colour in it's back ground. This happens quite often.

I have a miniature supermarket rose that has two different colored blooms on it and was wondering what is happening to it to cause this? it is not a grafted rose.

Usually when you buy a mini rose in a supermarket, even though it looks like one bush it has 4 cuttings in the pot. It maybe that one of the cuttings was not the same colour as the other three. Look and see if the different rose colour is coming from a different stem.

It could either be mutating (sporting) genetically. Or, it could be naturally changing color from fresher flowers to older ones, which many roses do. Look at Double Delight, Color Magic and thousands of others which start out one color and fade or darken to others as they age. Or, it is very likely you have more than one type of rose in the pot. Usually, the supermarket minis are three or four small, own root plants in each pot. Perhaps one (or more) of the rooted pieces in that pot is a different variety. It could be accidental or deliberate. My local grocery store had a table full of small potted minis for Memorial Day where each pot had red and white mini roses in it.

Yes there was three plants in the pot however I seperated and planted them. It is not that it has faded some of the buds are quite darker than the others on the plant. I will send a photo of it soon.
