Bloom:
Pink and white, pink edges, pink reverse. Mild, sweet fragrance. 5 to 8 petals. Average diameter 1.5". Small, cluster-flowered, in small clusters, cupped-to-flat bloom form. Spring or summer flush with scattered later bloom. Decorative, pointed, ovoid buds.
Habit:
Armed with thorns / prickles, climbing, dense, lax. Medium, large, glossy, dark green, holly-like, leathery foliage.
Growing:
USDA zone 6b through 9b (default). Can be used for ground cover or pillar. Very vigorous. can be trained as a climber. heat tolerant. suitable for a pillar. Disease susceptibility: very disease resistant.
Breeder's notes:
Ralph Moore created the rose 0-47-19 from R. Wichuraiana and the floribunda, Floradora. Over the half century he's worked with this rose, it's yielded dozens of commercially successful roses. To this point, it had not been used to breed improved, modern ramblers and climbers.
Peter Schneider sent me the floribunda, Inner Wheel, some years ago. He commented it was the only handpainted rose which didn't blackspot in Ohio. That's a pretty good recommendation!
My goal was to create a breeding rose, capable of producing larger flowered, rambling roses with high disease resistance, hopefully repeat bloom and hand painted flowers. This one comes closest of all its siblings to that goal. It has very good disease resistance in my climate; propagates extremely easily; has one main flush of bloom in the spring, with scattered bloom in good seasons. The blooms do show painting and vary greatly in color intensity depending upon the weather.
